We now offer treatments with Restylane®, a crystal-clear, biodegradable NASHA (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid) product. Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the human body in connective tissue and serves to cushion and lubricate. Restylane® is fully biocompatible. This product is injected with a fine needle below the skin to add “cushioning or pillows” to the ball of the foot.
This helps to minimize pain associated with calluses by plumping-up your body’s natural cushioning beneath the painful metatarsal in the ball of the foot. This is often helpful to woman that may be uncomfortable in higher heeled shoes but desire to wear them. Utilizing this technique to restore the natural fat padding, surgery is no longer necessary to realign the bones in the foot.
The treatments may last up to one year and studies have shown that no long term adverse effects occur. Generally a single injection is administered to the affected area and usually costs approximately $500. Unfortunately, this is not covered by health insurance. This may be covered under some flexible spending accounts that are offered by many employers.
